9to5 National Association of Working Women is one of over 100 community organizations in Colorado alone who have signed support for the Employee Free Choice Act. The number is growing rapidly.
For 9to5, the importance of the Employee Free Choice Act is obvious. As an organization devoted to strengthening women's ability to win economic justice, 9to5 sees the Employee Free Choice Act as a step in the right direction.
Working women nationwide are standing up and expressing support for the Employee Free Choice Act - union members and non-union members alike.
Linda Meric, 9to5 Executive Director said, "The Employee Free Choice Act is one sure way to address this gender-based pay gap. Unionization can provide important economic security for low-wage Colorado women and their families."
Meric points to well-documented studies on women in union versus non-union workplaces. For example, John Schmitt, a Senior Economist at the Center for Economic and Policy Research and author of the CEPR study Unions and Upward Mobility for Women Workers said, "For women, joining a union makes as much sense as going to college." Schmitt said, "All else equal, joining a union raises a woman's wage as much as a full-year of college, and a union raises the chances a woman has health insurance by more than earning a four-year college degree.”
9to5 encourages others to join her in both supporting the Employee Free Choice Act and in reaching out to our Colorado Senators to make sure they vote appropriately.
